Akakama Finds His MotherThe sons of Kamakiri are one of the main reasons I got really interested in GDW:O. I won't spoil their entire arc, but basically they are one of the first actual characters that Yoshi has written that are not inherently evil, and actually grow to become friends to Sirius. Before anyone groans, it's not the same as Weed would do: the entire character arc of Akakama in particular is that he was never truly evil, and he is trying to understand how to be a better brother and person because he feels bitterness in his life. A huge trauma happens to the brothers (I'm not gonna spoil it, it's pretty heartbreaking), and it causes Akakama to have a change of heart and feel like he has no purpose in his life. Being raised by Kamakiri, the brothers knew nothing but abuse and how to abuse in order to survive. It's through Sirius that they realized life doesn't have to be cruel; Orion's a little shit and just made matters worse but we'll get to that some other time. I don't give a shit how many people don't like Sirius because they call him a "Weed clone", he actually goes through a lot to help the Kamas and they become his big brothers. And instead of immediately worshiping Sirius or Ohu, they took most of the series to change. It proved to me that Yoshi could actually write really sympathetic characters if he gave enough of a shit to do it. I also titled the chapter "The Path of Life," but it's usually used as "The Way of Life." I did this because the last page where Akakama hopes he has time to change his 'path' to follow Sirius on it. It sounded more poetic to me so I used it. Anyway, I also really loved this scene, and a future one, where Akakama finally sees his mother again (I'll do that one, too, it's shorter). Throughout most of the volumes the Kamas only remembered her as being horribly abused by Kamakiri until one day she vanished and left without them. Rightfully so, Akakama feels anger at her for it, but from what his mother says, the sons were also becoming as dangerous as their father, so she had to leave, but when she tried coming back for them, Kamakiri threatened her life. It's unlike Yoshi to even see a son give a shit about his mother in such a way, with both having justifiable reasons for what they've done, and to see the mother handled with a lot of respect at being shown how she was strong enough not to give up her life because of Kamakiri's abuse and how she became self-reliant and the main contributor to the family (she seems to be the one really good at catching food and managing the family). Her new husband also is adorable with the kids. There's no insults at his sons or him to be suicidal men, no mentions of how evil the mother is for not dying for her children, and none of Akakama giving some macho speech even about devoting his life to Ohu like a cult follower. It's just a rather relatable family situation and a character with mixed feelings that all make sense. I really wish Yoshi would focus more on stuff like this but unfortunately it's just a glimpse into better writing where characters feel more like characters instead of 2-dimensional shonen cardboard pieces.

Ah wow, that's an awesome scene! Everything you say is right, Rascal. Even though I have no context for what's going on, since I hardly know who Akakama is, I loved reading it. Now I'm curious to see what happens when he meets his mom for the second time! It's nice to see a character evolving, from time to time. Thanks for translating it. ^^
(Also, still a better love story than Twilight)

Im realllyy late to this, but I finally saw your reply about requesting translations ^^ and I have a new one in mind.
I've been really curious to learn more about Lydia and what Yoshi has to say about her. Ginga wikia is pretty limited on info about her, so I was hoping someone could translate some short scenes of her.

pages 173-176
pages 188-197
I'm not sure which scene has more interesting context to learn about or even if some of these are too long. Hopefully they're ok ^^; You could even just give a lil written summary if it's easier.
