Takahashi ended the previous Ginga Densetsu Weed mangansa: Orion the first part of April. After this, he was told to start "a new series," but the details or the name of this case is not yet told. So by "new" he just did what he always does and milks more out of the Ginga Series? Okay, I'll shut up and sit in the corner.

あれは!?
Can I just honestly say that I am extremely pleased that it's not about Tesshin? The Japanese fanbase are absolutely head-over-heels over that guy and it drives me nuts. Hoping this is at least a fun (and under ten volumes) read.

Oh my god, @bazinsky, I'm seriously going to read both side-by-side to see. Yoshi doesn't speak a lick of English, I'm sure, but that would be hilarious if these end up as carbon copies of each other.

I'm probably not going to be able to read whatever this turns out to be for quite a while as my Japanese skills are on-par with a bag of potatoes, but an interesting expansion to the Ginga universe is always nice. I can't say I wasn't hoping for something new, but y'know, if this is what Yoshi wants to do whether it be for money or not, I can respect that.

As long as it fleshes out Akame's character, I'll be fine with it. I just want a story where characters have deep backgrounds and motives. Not that GNG, GDW, and GDWO didn't have those, it just falls flat when he drags the stories on and on. 'Pologies for the rant. I'm not unhappy about this decision (looking forward to it, honestly), just expressing my concerns about where his stories are going, is all.

Well it may just be me, but it sort of does sound like the beginning of Ginga Densetsu Riki (and a lot of his other stories as well). And yes, that would be immensely funny. Though I honestly can't see Yoshi having one of his characters bested by a cat.

After Namonaki no Uta, I just kinda gave up on Yoshi ever stepping back and trying something new. He's so desperate to keep adding "Ginga Densetsu" or "Ginga series" to all of these, so I'm afraid all he's doing is messing up his own canon.
I'm not an Akame or ninja dog fan, but if this was to give Akame some character and NOT be a repeat of all the other stories, sure, I'd give it a try. I'm afraid it's going to also just be one chapter, or six chapters, and not have added much of anything besides "Akame's a ninja dog. He fought Kurojaki." But then again, I sure as hell don't want this to be sixty volumes. I don't THINK it could be, but... Yoshi would find a way.
I also agree on the Tesshin thing. I have nothing wrong with Tesshin being people's favorite, but from all of the nothing he contributes (at least from the main source to the public through the anime), I'm tired of seeing him as the only guy people draw or talk about. Granted, his growing up could technically be interesting, but it depends on what mood Yoshi's in to either put some thought into it or just remake GDR like he did to the Benizakura story.

The thing is, though, that while some people grow tired of him doing the same old thing, almost everyone here who's mentioned it has also said they'd give it a go. He has found an excellent formula.
But without the bags.

I personally meant I'd give it a shot if someone else would find out that there's something new. It's the same with GDWO for me. I'm not even reading them, I'm waiting for the translations for other people to confirm what is happening so I don't get my hopes up. Once I know if people reading it are already bored of it (unfortunately, how the Ganin short story was), I'm not going to join in and read it. I couldn't even finish Namonaki no Uta, and even though I was going to buy the Shin Gaiden with Beni's story, that seemed to be a flop, too (My order for the book got lost in the mail... I still would've scanned it, since it cost so darn much). :notimpressedplz: Without knowing the details, this idea seemed to be based solely on Yoshi wanting to add more and more to the Gingaverse. While that's not necessarily bad, none of his side stories have been successful, on the whole. There's too much continuous letdown and it makes it harder to trust Yoshi in putting as much inspiration into Namonaki no Uta as, say, Yamato, in example, without comparing lengths. I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer, I just mean I personally do not have much hope for this idea of not leaving Ginga alone to lead to anything new or exciting. If it turns out to be a really great story, I'll be pleasantly surprised, and if not, I've prepared myself not to be so disappointed in it. HOWEVER, being the scanlation team we are, we'd still happily check it out, it just depends on the staff's own personal opinions if they'd like to scan, clean, typeset or translate it, since it costs time and money. I would be willing to clean the scans of it, if any are ever given, but it also depends how well this thing sells: the Shin Gaiden Jump Remix is incredibly hard to find, so we haven't gotten around to buying it again since the price was insane. Tl;dr: Sorry if I sounded like I was angry at anyone having hope for this, i just meant in my own opinion I'm not holding my breath, but we'll definitely look into this and see if it can be easily obtained or if it's better not to spend our money on it, depending on general opinion and how much money this book/books would cost.

Hoping this is at least a fun (and under ten volumes) read. If a Tesshin story was done with the thought and care it would take to examine his relationship with Akame, Moss, and Gin - along with Akame's view on the whole matter, it could be fantastic. However knowing Yoshi this would never come to surface; it wouldn't have the emotional aspect such a story would need. Not everything can be 'Be a Man' 'He's the best compared to other puppies', etc. even though Yoshi likes to think otherwise... I'm with you on that, M-92 Mantis; if it's something actually original, let's go for it. If it's a repeat of GDR or Beni's story....there's no point, unless it's short lol.

We already technically had an Iga story, too - Ganin. While, no, it's not the same Akame, it's still technically... Akame.
Kind of.
Maybe.
Aaaaaaaanyway...
If it deals with character relationships, that'll be even more awesome. I don't want more, "ACT LIKE A MAN," "MAN UP," and so on. I want actual drama, actual storytelling, actual... you get the idea.
So, I'll give the story a go before I form a more solid opinion (because judging by "the cover" is a no-no in my eyes).

If I go by the cover, I can clearly tell that Akame is a giant monster who is trying to eat the retreating Kougas in the background, and is using superfluous text to attack.
