Before reading, please take note that this rule exists in our Rules thread, and we have made little change. However, we felt reiterating it on a separate thread would keep it cleared up for everyone.
We do not allow advertisements on this board of your site or your own scanlation team unless given permission by us or relating to us - meaning we helped with the production of it, you have a moderate selection of finished projects that are in high quality, or it is using our scans, translations or other materials with permission in another language to share with other foreign fans.
We keep this rule due to many claims of scanlation teams that vanish within a few months. Sometimes the teams don’t even have a designated translator before they begin announcing their upcoming projects.
It’s understandably come to the point where it’s hard to trust a new team, which can get frustrating. Ginga Scans itself started out quite inactive because the majority saw or still sees us as something similar. It’s a fact we knew before we made the site, which is why we always ask and encourage for people to share links to our forum to any other fan sites to help show that our work is legitimate and active. We give content after spending days of scanning and translating, and hours on cleaning, typesetting, and uploading the zip files. This is what scanlation teams do and must do for each and every chapter they release. This comes with giving promises you can maintain in keeping the content updated, fixing mistakes, enhancing the SFX and formatting and cleaning to make your work look better.
Because of this, we want to avoid the frustration of people advertising their own scanlations, showing three pages, and then disappearing off the face of the earth. We do not need others seeing that we actually have a legitimate translator and asking we help with their own scanlations so they can claim credit for being some sort of “head organizer.” This is not about vying for attention to look like you’ve done the impossible, this is about working together to provide accurate, clean, pretty scanlations for other fans to read.
We already have several requests from members here who have asked to use our translations and materials such as scans or cleaned scans so that they may retranslate them for other foreign fan sites to enjoy. We give permission as long as credit is given for using our work. Giving credit without asking to use anything of ours is not allowed; you must ask permission to use our work to retranslate it into another language to help give quality scanlations to other countries.
You may also not post a thread here about your scanlation work if:
• You don’t know a lick of Japanese or whatever language your series comes in. Any 'practice' scanlations go in Ginga spam, not the Chit-Chat Board.
• You haven’t finished a single volume.
• You can only finish three volumes of GDW because - “coincidentally” - that’s where the ComicsOne translations end.
• You are just copying and pasting the ComicsOne English translations.
• You can’t give progress on the scanlations in six months (depending on why you had to leave; continuous excuses will negate this.)
• You are copying and pasting our translations. Translating works in a way that you can get different results for words or phrases based on a translator’s opinion on the context and current mood of the dialogue or narration. This means when obvious identical parts are found and matched, someone is just using a thesaurus to try and make the rest of the work sound slightly different. Scanlation teams in every fandom can suffer from this and we know how to spot it.
Everything I have listed has happened before, and continues to happen. It is not fair to the fandom and it is disrespectful to everyone hoping to see additional scanlations.
Along with this, do not advertise your scanlation team asking for people on here to join you. We are a scanlation site doing around three to four different series every week - why do you suddenly want your own team made up of our people when we have our own resources and materials? Everyone on our scanlation team has volunteered for their positions to help us release content - there would be no reason for us to have to work for two teams to overlap one another’s series projects. We’re not saying you cannot make your own Ginga scanlation team anywhere, that’s ridiculous. We’re saying, however, you cannot make your own team here, on a site that is only meant for us to share our own team’s work. We also will not work with you on a project if you do not give credit to any of our materials or team members used for it - again, we are not okay with the fandom trying to gain attention by crediting themselves with stolen or rehashed work. We are here to give scanlations that the Ginga fandom has been absent on for years, we’re not here as competition or to reach the finish line.
Examples of what we've allowed:
We have a member who is retranslating our work into Spanish for a Spanish Ginga forum to read. She asked permission first.
We have two members who asked to retranslate our work into French for French readers. Both asked permission for future retranslations they would like to do.
A member named Kaidog came to us asking for help on a team to work on Ginga Densetsu Akame. It made everything easier that he scanned it for us and joined our scanlation team to help provide cleaning and scanning for this and other projects instead of making another scanlation team.
Please follow these rules and know that we have had to make them for legitimate reasons. Any questions, please PM me.
