Kit : I'm really sorry it's not a SSY chapter, guys...
After over two months of not even looking at Japanese, I fear I'm a bit rusty, and GNG's style of speech is much easier for me than the type characters in Yamato typically use. So I might just focus on a few GNG chappies, at first, to wean myself back into things.
Now to tear apart this chapter, as you all expect of me...
I'm pretty sure Cross's babies have some permanent defects by now, with as many times as she's asphyxiated herself with water and generally gone crashing into the ground... And they're all still acting like this is just normal pregnant behavior, which I still find really funny. I do wonder how she feels about everyone just accepting the two guys who tried to sexually assault-- I mean... ROB her of all those precious belongings she clearly keeps safely tucked away in her fur.
Why are they there, anyway? Did Oliver just force them to become his slaves after beating them up, or what? Nobody's going to explain or ask, what with the two too scared to utter a word under the sharp eye of
Slavemaster Oliver? Okay, then.
I love how Kisaragi's sons look more evil than any Yoshi villain we've ever seen, LOL. I especially love how we're expected to end up liking the Four Heavenly Kings, when Yoshi keeps getting carried away with Kisaragi's douchehood, in a seeming effort to prolong this conflict and kill Terry, while simultaneously backpedaling at random to go "whoops... We have to actually make him a good guy in the end, don't we..." and showing him hesitant to kill Terry (even though he's okay with torturing kids 2 seconds prior). Awkward.
[Insert obligatory remark about the annoying number of "die like a man" spiels in this chapter, alone.]
乃ĿŌŌƉȲ₭ȲŌŪƧĦĪṜŌ : With my main computer fix I can finally read these things. It feels AMAZING to be back. The nostalgia of the samurai doggies flows within me!
Now onto the chapter...I have a whole new respect for Terry. He seems like a genuinely nice guy. In the anime we only hear of him maybe once(?) before the four heavenly kings of Mutsu arc. So this actually makes me feel something more about his death.
The "die like a man" theme is really prevalent here and honestly I like it. It pumps me up and gives me a lot of respect for the characters. They will do anything to achieve their goals and that is admirable.
I'm surprised that Chibi actually talks, but it's a nice to see. A shame they left this part out in the show.
Best Quote: "It's almost like we're in a story told by some manga artist..." Yes, Oliver it's ALMOST like you're in a story told by a MANGA ARTIST.
Edit: Kit you're so on point with the whole
rapist thieves thing. Like Cross isn't scared, Oliver doesn't say anything, and everybody in Ohu is just okay with only the tiny one talking. I don't understand why Cross didn't say a thing. I would be telling everybody in my platoon/unit/whatever that these dudes tried to assault me a few days ago.
M-92 Mantis : Welcome back, Kyou! I'm glad your computer issues got resolved!
Tora : This is really nice to read it again!! And sure love Oliver's mention of "made by a manga artist". As it would been in Swedish to say; klockrent (litterly; clear as a bell)!
Ryan : cant wait for the next chapter! i hate to say it but i do like GNG more then GDW.
Kit : No need to feel hesitation.
Most people prefer GNG, and even though I'm not really one of them, I can see why they would.
Hopefully we'll be able to get working on this series (and the others) again, very soon! Thanks for your patience!
Ryan : well i've was looking for years to read these mangas so i guess i can handle waiting a bit longer
ItuYosha : really happy i found you guys and grateful for all the work that you put down,
its like xmass
omg omg omg, i feel like 8 year again(or how old i was first time i watched GNG anime)
M-92 Mantis : Thank you for deciding to join us and give our work a chance, ItuYosha! Welcome to Ginga Scans and thank you for the compliments!
乃ĿŌŌƉȲ₭ȲŌŪƧĦĪṜŌ : Not done reading, but I love the swirling death font you guys use.
Oliver is still using the rapists I see, but he's a little smartass, and I'm actually starting to like him. Much different from the anime where he just shows up. I'm also glad Gin and his group didn't just jump into the gorge, because it's supposed to be impossible to escape from, but nevermind how Ben and his dudes just did it in two seconds.
Ryan : OMG ITS FINALLY DONE
Kit :
Not done reading, but I love the swirling death font you guys use.

I'm also glad Gin and his group didn't just jump into the gorge, because it's supposed to be impossible to escape from, but nevermind how Ben and his dudes just did it in two seconds. I just noticed we forgot to warp some of that text, though... That'll be fixed in the volume release, sorry!I think the anime wrote itself into a corner with them physically not being able to get up. Because the manga more implies they just get blocked off by the Four King's dudes and beat down for every attempt until they're too hungry and dehydrated to try, anymore. But I guess in the anime's defense, the rain would make some mud on the sides that would be easier for their claws to get traction in.
LOL, you'd think this ridiculously huge army of almost 400 dogs trying to take over the country for some presumably selfish gain (can't remember if we get any motive next chap) would have attracted some attention.
"Guys, maybe we should be focusing more on this organized army that's powerful enough to wipe out three of our--..."
"NO, SCREW THAT. BEHRZ SUCK!!
"
And what's with the, "If they fight back, we can just force their surrender, easier!" thing? You guys could just... do that. You don't need a reason. In fact, they already
did resist, but you just slapped them on the wrist and yelled "no!" Methinks you guys have more mood swings than the actually pregnant Cross...
Speaking of mood swings, Ben's had yet another personality switch. "If we're going to die, we should all die"? What? I thought you wanted to kill Akakabuto at all costs. How does that happen if you lose all your best soldiers on some squabble? Plus Ben, I thought you were the guy who preached sensible things like "I can die for my friends so that they're able to live on," so what's with the sudden 'we need to die all together like some cult circle' mentality? I don't... Whatever, Yoshi.
Gin, for the last time, you cannot hear specific voices from miles away, out of a speeding car on the highway... Fur doesn't work like that. Even the SFX didn't hear it, because they're not there.
And yeah, hey, look... The guys who tried to sexually assault their commander's wife - both of who are some of Gin's closest friends - are being useful. I guess we're just... still not getting an explanation for them. I did enjoy seeing Oliver making a fool out of some all-powerful warlord, though.
Kisaragi may have been trying not to underestimate them, but... he still just came off as a haughty idiot throwing out basic war tactics by moving all his troops to one small area. Ohu were lucky bastards to-- oh wait, they're not quitting while they're ahead, and probably making all that effort for nothing.
What is this arc, I don't even.
They aren't even talking about recruiting - just killing them for some unexplained honor motive.
Benizakura, I love you, but Shikoku and Mutsu are not the same thing. You can't be king of a place you're never mentioned to have lived, while accusing
them of being pretentious.
In lighter news, some adorable things arrive, next chappy!
Tora : I think Gin more felt then heard them. He felt they where close to them and where going away (six sence), and he translated it to he heard them. I dunno.
Don't mess with a Dashhound.
TheShikoku : This is so epic !
shazzz97 : very well done, thanks for the chapter!
Chani :
Benizakura, I love you, but Shikoku and Mutsu are not the same thing. You can't be king of a place you're never mentioned to have lived, while accusing
them of being pretentious.
Actually, Benizakura was born in Aomori prefecture AKA Mutsu.
It's not specifically stated in GNG (only in his Shin Gaiden story), but that line implies it's true + it's mentioned that he was born in Touhoku region, which includes Mutsu.
Kit :
The entirety of Ginga's plotline in a nutshell:Seriously, Kisaragi, don't get whiplash from that 180. Sudden bromance with Terry is sudden. What is with Ohu always consisting entirely of dudes who've done terrible things? So trustworthy... So full of justice...
And actually, Akame, Chibi was just screaming and traumatized after Kisaragi had him beat up and then gouged out his protector's eye before getting him killed. But y'know... inspired by valor... same thing, right? I do love the hilarity of saying "you're a good person. The small child you
kidnapped and held prisoner said you felt bad," though.
On a lighter note, Ben may very well be the only Ginga father besides Weed that I've seen show open affection for his wife. More than once.
... Also vampire Smith.
Tora : This is a scene that's different from the anie, and I can say, I like both battles. Cause both made really good expression and stuff. Including the birth of the puppies.
Reasib why I think Chibi said what he said, he because "if you gonna hate him, hate him for the right things". Sure he took out Terry's eye and that, but didn't gave him the death blow so to say. And as Ôu army need all the males they can, and now that the Four Heavenly Kings wants to battle with and not against them, they take that oppoturnaty.
Ryan : them eating terry was gross but the puppies made up for it.
Kausza : "Terry is the only one I can truly acknowledge as a great man!"
Okay, wait. That's a little extreme. The ONLY one? You don't even appreciate your generals? ... ???
And then Kisaragi is all kissing up to Ben after insulting his abilities earlier in the chapter. What? I hate these sudden changes of heart, it makes all of his characters seem so fake. I wish he had taken the entire Terry complex out of Kisaragi's reason to join. If Kisaragi had found out that his kids had been killed by the bears before the bear attack, and then joined their army to get revenge, everything would make so much more sense...
ItuYosha : Thanks alot
now get some food cooking and then read !!
damn got stuck could not go
almost had me in tears in the end of that chapter.
Great work as always !
乃ĿŌŌƉȲ₭ȲŌŪƧĦĪṜŌ : I like how Benizakura, Gin, and Ben jump while Moss is all "WTF!?" on the ground.
"HRAAAAAAAAAA!! He may have been an enemy, but Terry was the only one I've ever been able to acknowledge as a great man!"
Uhh...lolwut? So you don't consider your brothers great men? I mean they rule with you and...oh nevermind Kisaragi. Have your mancrush. I won't judge.
Overall a decent chapter, I liked how the fight was a little longer.
@bucciamarcia : And finally, I read ALL the chapters so I can comment on your work!
Kisaragi looked more upset that the bear killed Terry than his sons, which somehow doesn't sound right. In all this, the mother was nowhere in sight as per GNG. If it wasn't for Cross, I'd think dogs in the Ginga universe were hermaphrodites.
But other than this, I liked this chapter. Mainly because the search for dogs is over, and we get to the good stuff (from next chapter?). I always appreciate fighting scenes with some gore (makes them more realistic), and this chapter has that.
Can't wait for the next one!
laia92 : I downloaded this chapter too. Thank you, thank you very much for your translation work! I'll wait for the next!
Ace :

I actually quite like the Kisaragi-plot despite it's
many holes. Firstly, I think the fight was epic and felt like Yoshi really pulled out all the canons in terms of the quality of art etc. Buuut... As people have pointed out, Kisaragi really changes his mind
a lot. Firstly, the entire 'Terry is the only great male'... dude, your brothers/generals, what about them? Considering you share the rule, you would have to acknowledge them... even just a tiny tad. Similarly, he changed his mind about Ben quite a lot of times... and with Terry, erh... there's a weird mancrush going on, but I do appreciate that Kisaragi respects Terry's loyalty, but it is just not entirely consistent. Consistency is what Kisaragi's character seems to be lacking.
Despite all that I felt like the scene, where Kisaragi sees his dead sons was very touching, and if Yoshi had just decided to stick with this one motivation rather than jumping back and forth between conflicting motives, it would have been even stronger.
Too bad there are so many inconsistencies in Kisaragi's character, because the Mutsu generals actually seem interesting: how does their rule work? Do they always agree? How did they start their rule? Is their rule so successful because of their cooperation? This is something I would love to have heard more of, but his comment about Terry as the only great male just reeeally ruins it...
Kit : Remember ladies and gentlemen... The moral of this chapter is: "If someone so much as looks at you wrong, they deserve to be permanently crippled, or killed."
Take it to heart.
Great! Bem! Just kiss, already!
@bazinsky : Long-awaited chapter; well worth the wait. Great job guys! Thanks again for sharing!
@bucciamarcia : Thank you so much for this!
It's a good chapter, I enjoyed reading it. So it appears that some of the Ohu soldiers were recruited by force (Musashi, John), which makes them an army of slaves. I am surprisingly okay with that.
Also, tears of blood are cheesy.
Tora : Seeming that John and Musashi needed to prove themself for the leaders in that area (like Moss was with Ben).
Anyway, I love this chapter. You can feel the climax coming soon, building up!
乃ĿŌŌƉȲ₭ȲŌŪƧĦĪṜŌ : I liked the chapter, but some of it does make me see things that Yoshi could've developed more (granted I don't know if he does in the future, but I don't really expect much) like the whole Bem being a hardass, because of acid being thrown on him, but all that was changed in a matter of minutes with Great's manly tears of manliness, and the dynamic between Akame and Tesshin/Chibi. He's raising the son of his enemy and he's clearly worried for the little one for various reasons. I'd like to see how he deals with the pup as he grows up and maybe displays some more Koga-esque behavior. I'm rambling so I'll stop looking too deep...for now...
I will leave with this: Chibi is cute, and as overdramatic as it may seem I do like all the manly honor talk they did.
@bucciamarcia : Good point there, 乃ĿŌŌƉȲ₭ȲŌŪƧĦĪṜŌ! Chibi IS cute, and his relation with Akame is a nice little addition that wasn't there in the anime. It could have been developed more, like many other things in GNG, but I really liked that scene. Akame's been fighting the Koga his whole life, and now he's raising the last survivor of the enemy clan. I wonder what's going on inside his head. He might be pure hearted and everything, but Chibi is still a Koga, so he must have some doubts.
(Also, your signature distracted me greatly while I was writing this post)
Kit : I like to headcanon that Akame thinks Kurojaki abandoned Chibi-Tesshin in plain sight because he realized Ohu was a better home for his son (forgotten honor and all that bullshit) and thus wants to personally take him under his wing, to make sure he won't end up becoming like his father. But that's just grasping at straws, so...
The implication that Akame confided in Moss about his feelings on Chibi is pretty cool, though. Too bad Yoshi didn't feel like adding that particular scene...
I don't understand why they don't just leave Chibi with a human for a while, though. No matter what you try to teach him, his chances of survival are pretty darn slim, if you all die. Gin and Ben both have owners that seem to do a lot for their dogs - I don't see why they wouldn't look after a puppy for a bit, for them. Heck, even Hidetoshi would probably do it. All the humans seem to have a good understanding of the dogs.
18Gingasoldier :
Shalalalalala don't be scared!
You got the mood prepared
Go on and kiss him, Great
Sha la la la la la
Don't stop now
Don't try to hide it now
You want to kiss him, Bem.I had to.

That is a nice headcanon, yes. It makes a lot of sense actually, after all, Kurojaki didn't even try to take Chibi with him. So many things are left unexplained.
As for why they don't leave him with a human, well, I never thought about that. Maybe they don't trust humans that much? I'm not sure, but Akame never lived with one as far as I remember. And a lot of dogs said they were abandoned or otherwise mistreated while staying with the humans. Also there is clearly a bond between Chibi and the other dogs, and it isn't an easy decision to say "let's just drop him for a year or so". No matter how much sense it makes.
Grand : Time for another chapter! Thanks for the hard work and downloads guys.
Kit : Dat heart viking laughter... Dose eyebrows... Dem screams of troll-ness, to scare the other group for no reason...
On another note, I do enjoy that the humans seem to be freaking the hell out about the army of dogs crossing from one island to another. I mean... I would be, too, so... Good job, humans! You go! You be involved in the story!
@bucciamarcia : Ohh, so in the manga, Ben's pup are born before Riki appears? Well, that is not as epic. But like Kit says, at least he cares about his pups.
Also, Hakuro doesn't fight with Gin? Why would the anime change that?
Alright, from the next chapter, things should start to get really interesting...
Also, "we came to polish our manhood"
Kit :
Ohh, so in the manga, Ben's pup are born before Riki appears? Well, that is not as epic. But like Kit says, at least he cares about his pups.
They were born like two whole chapters ago, bro.
But yeah, I like that Ben actually shows open affection and seems excited they exist. Can't seem to say that about many Ginga dads.
You forgot the two very important words
"up on" but I forgive you, because Hakurou totally meant both things, and we all know it.
Also you're right about a lot of stuff happening next chapter, since it's like 95+ goddamn pages long. Yoshi, why?!
laia92 : Thank you very much for this chapter!
I've noticed something: in the anime seems the dogs don't know Riki's name, they call him only "boss" even when they are referring to him, but in the manga all of them know his name, Hakuro too...
Why this change?
Ace :
I am so glad it wasn't just me snickering like a high school girl, when I read that.... I study too much literature, oh God.
Hakuro is one big troll... and I love him :megustabishieplz:
Ryan : i loved how happy ben was with his babies. im guessing they'll have to be carried all the back to ohu. my favorite part though was one of hakurou's followers saying "you're always so impulsive"
another awesome chapter! thanks scan team! we are getting super close to the big battle! just one very long chapter next and book 6 is over
乃ĿŌŌƉȲ₭ȲŌŪƧĦĪṜŌ : This chapter was about men, it was also about swords. Nothing beats manly men wanting to polish and use their swords. Nothing at all.
@bucciamarcia :
Kit Oh, you're right. I confused anime and manga.
They came to polish up on their manhood. You could have at least used "arrived"
laia92 Yeah, in the anime, I thought Riki couldn't remember his name, that's why everyone called him leader or variations of that. But in the manga, his name is known. So apparently, he doesn't have a complete amnesia?
乃ĿŌŌƉȲ₭ȲŌŪƧĦĪṜŌ Except there are ONLY males.

Just for that, I'm going to post all of the incredibly relevant Hakurou gifs that I have saved.
