The entirety of this art book is free to use - meaning you can share or use any images in here on any site for whatever you like. Credit is not required, but please drop a link to our website if anyone asks. Only rule is to NOT claim any part of the scanlation as your own or to remove our credits given in the table of contents.
Both these links will give you a .zip file. If a link is dead or broken, please let us know here so we can fix it immediately. Thank you! Reuploaded on November 2nd, 2014--- Sorry for the delay, I bit off more than I could chew with thinking I could shoot this out so quickly despite scanning, cleaning, translating and typesetting the entirety of the book. I forgot how big it was, hehe. Also, here's a list of any errors, changes, or personal changes we made to this scanlation before anyone asks. Also I thought it'd be fun to point out some of the quirks I found in both the Finnish and Japanese books. Finnish and Japanese Errors / Changes / Misc.
Kyoushirou’s title, “shirogane,” is added as a part of his name and left last as: Kyoushirou Shirogane. This is technically incorrect since ‘shirogane’ is part of a title, not a name, and should be translated. ‘Kyoushirou the Silver’ or ‘Silver Kyoushirou’ are both accurate translations; leaving part of a title untranslated when it can be easily changed to another language makes it a bit confusing. ‘Shirogane’ (白銀) is another way to say silver; literally “white-silver.” No typical reader will know what on earth ‘shirogane’ even means, especially when left untranslated, and it sounds more like a last name than a title. The Japanese version is incorrect as well, leaving it hyphenated as “Kyoshiro-Shirogane.’ Despite that, the Finnish book actually got Kyoushirou’s name correct in remembering the added OUs, whilst the Japanese book left it as the incorrect version of ‘Kyoshiro’. The difference between ‘inu’ and ‘ken’ for Japanese dog breed names is confusing, but mainly based on the region and its general name for the dog. ‘Inu’ is the kun’yomi for 犬 (dog), and ‘ken’ is the on’yomi. Both are arguably correct, though ‘ken’ is used most often in Japan itself (again, this is arguable depending on whom is speaking and where they are from). Some regions use ‘ken’ almost exclusively, such as with the Kai Ken. If you instead want to literally call it “tiger dog,” you almost always use ‘tora inu’ instead of ‘tora ken,’ though this is not an exact rule. With all of that in mind, we’ve used the most common of the breed names with ‘inu’ and ‘ken’ both. For some odd reason, in the Japanese version, Kyoushirou’s breed name is ‘Kisyoinu’ instead of ‘Kishuu Inu.’ The kanji is even given above. There is absolutely no variation of Kishuu as Kisyo, so obviously we’ve fixed it. This one is just a personal scanlation change, not an error: George’s name is Jouji. Both are perfectly accurate; the name variation can be based on individual opinion. Supposedly Yoshi himself claimed he meant for the name to be read as ‘George’, but then again there is hardly ever any sources to prove his claims during any of his interviews. Due to our own preferences, our scanlation team leaves it as ‘George.’ George is also how the Japanese art book left it (although they got Ben and Kyoushirou’s names wrong, so that’s not saying much). Weed, Kyoushirou, George, Ken and Hiro’s profile names and breed info are completely missing in the Profiles section. I had to add in the Japanese art book's text to be 100% sure on the claims. We know Hiro’s “Saint Bernard” breed in the art book is an error, since later he is claimed to be a Great Pyrenees. We’re leaving it in the art book as it is because it’s not a big deal and we don’t want to mess with the breeds despite obvious flaws, like Ken and George somehow being only saluki and great dane and not mentioned to be mixes, even though it’s a fact. The ‘inu’ in the dog’s breed info is squished along with the breed name, like ‘Shibainu’ and ‘Kaiinu’ for Shiba Inu and Kai Inu. Other breeds like English Setter and Golden Retriever are left spaced, so maybe adding any language’s form of -dog at the end is different. Either way, they’ve been spaced. Mer is the correct name for Mel. However, since it is just a preference to English speakers, we have changed Mer’s name to Mel. Page 64 with the web outline of characters and their relationships to one another in the plot is bigger than all of the other pages at their standard number of 1000 pixels in height. Page 64 is 1500 pixels high to make the small text around the profiles readable for anyone with smaller monitors. The title of the word "gengashuu" changes randomly. Sometimes it is translated as "taidekirja", which means 'art book', and other times it is left as gengashuu. This is sort of inaccurate since art books contain concept art, sketches, exclusive art, and behind the scenes areas. The gengashuu (原画集) translates into "original image compilation/collection", which is the term for books with collections of already existing pieces. The word for art book is usually (美術書 “bijutsusho”). However, since there doesn't appear to be a name for gengashuu in other languages, we will use 'art book ' like the Finnish translation. Reporters A, B, and C have been renamed as 1, 2, and 3. It’s just a preference, nothing big or special about the change. In the bibliography at the end, Akira Itou is uncredited as the writer of FANG. So yes, Finland really did think Yoshi had written it. We’ve added him as credited in the bibliography. The author of Punch (Ichigeki), Taki Naoki, is also uncredited. We've credited him.

Just as a further note, the book is still read right to left for double pages, but Finland had it set up to read the interview columns as left to right.
I love how it's painfully obvious that neither the vet - Hirata - nor Yoshi know a thing about dogs in those interviews... In fact they confirm some abusive and/or neglectful treatment towards their pets that we got an inkling towards in the HANAKO story. My biggest rage point is saying Labs don't need walks. Labs are working dogs and need at least SOME aerobic exercise, DAILY. It doesn't matter if your dog is personally mellow, it's not an inherent truth for the breed, and even mellow dogs need 2-3 walks a day, not including any extra pee breaks. It's not just a physical thing - it's for mental stimulation and exposure.
My dog is a lazy git, and not even half the size of a Lab, but if she doesn't get out, it's extremely obvious. "People-oriented" also has nothing to do with anything, since walking your dog is also a good way to bond with them. It's not like your dog is just off walking by itself... It's still with you - it's family - so I don't even know why that "My dogs prefer to be with their family" thing is even considered an argument.
Also really old-school, set-in-stone, black-and-white beliefs about how canine dominance and pack structure works for the win...? For that matter, I've never seen dogs "grab each other and pin the other down to examine their sex" unless they were being aggressive, so... I'm calling bull on it being okay for that puppy Hana "didn't bite" to have teeth marks, as long as they were in one spot. Wolf hybrids are notoriously more unpredictable, no matter how they're raised, so claiming any of her behaviors as a normal trait for any dog to have is pretty ridiculous.

Thank you so much for all of your hard work on this! I've just downloaded it and can't wait to start reading (though I do have to sleep first). However, since I could not help myself, I would just like to say that your notes here on the translation changes are very interesting, and I would like to say that I appreciate you taking the time to point out all of the little differences like this and explain why you made the choices you did when translating.
Once again, thank you for sharing this with all of us!

Thank you so much!! Love to read this in English. ^^ Yeah, Mer is also confusion in Swedish as in a way of saying, it means "more". Reason I spell him like Merr, to get the correct pronouncesion. And as Shirogane is a title, I liked how the Swedish subtitles changed it to "Silverfur", Kyôshirô the Silverfur in the DVD. the hole Scandinavia and Finland did it as well. And I think I know why they spelled it Kyoshiro and not Kyoushirou, as outside Japan (at least in Sweden) we spell it without the double as we happen to pronounce it close to Japanese sound even without. ^^;

Really, really, REALLY awesome work! As Bazinsky mentioned, it must've been a lot of work translating the whole thing with its subtleties intact to the best of your ability. You did a great job so thank you for pushing through it, the book is great fun to look through. The art itself is lovely, and who doesn't love seeing Weed being surprised in various environments? The profiles and extra art were a lovely little touch, but I could've done without the interview. Or, at the very least, that particular interview; I'dve hoped for something a bit more Ginga-related in terms of interview content, but as is I just wasn't terrifically interested. The absolutely horrific inaccuracies with regard to canine personality and social behavior near the end were completely cringeworthy, but it wouldn't really help anyone to pick them all apart and complain here; Just be warned, Yoshi is a total dingus (alongside his vet). Interview aside, fantastic work!

Thank you all, I'd like to say individual thanks to you guys but there's too many people to quote, here, so a big hug and thank you for the compliments to everyone.
As for the interview, despite taking the LONGEST, I'm really disappointed in the questions asked and the answers given. I know I prattle on about how much I don't like Yoshi, but I would've liked to hear some questions regarding his career, his choices made for Yamato, Gin and Weed... y'know, stuff to actually do with his manga. I don't know why the reporters asked stuff more relatable to Dr. Hirata when Yoshi has proven he just like dogs, not in some professional sense since most of his answers were inaccurate to the behavior and reactions they give. I didn't mind hearing about his life with Hanako or Mel, but I would've liked to hear how they inspired him to make certain characters in GNG or GDW, or anything like that. There are so many questions that could've been interesting for him to answer... it made translating the pages even worse for me because I wasn't finding anything really exciting in them to keep going, lol.
I also REALLY want a realistic drawing of Weed and so many others... I'm guessing it's still never gonna happen again what with GDWO and GDA. Maybe I'll give my hand a shot at drawing and try to mimic the existing ones to make more for people.

I haven't got around to reading the whole interview, which I'm glad I haven't seeing as it seems I would just get angry, haha. Dogs do sniff and can easily figure out one another's sex, they don't need to be so pervy about it...>_> is Japan not privy to the dog sniffing butts trope? As a side note, I love Yoshi's realistic pictures, but I wish he had included the scars on Kage. It would be great to see him do more characters in this style, as M-92 Mantis said. I'd love to see say, Bat, a Kouga, or a Wolf in his realistic style. I love the images that actually show a sort of mood, like pg. 28, with the sunset/rise. It's SO pretty to see the colours changed to fit the setting. The fighting Kaibutsu image is something I've never seen before! It's surprisingly... nice looking. Though the one dog getting punched looks like Rocket, which is lulz. Dat water on page 48, I really like its shades. (Also Mel's weight... I had a lab/chow mix and he was like 80 pounds. Is Mel THAT underweight or was that just the Chow in him...) Thanks SO much for doing this. I love seeing the 'extra' things Yoshi has done, rather than the main series... es all the time.

Yeah, Yoshi's dog is way underweight. He claims she keeps losing it and doesn't know why, but my guess would be stress from her supposed atopy combined with the stress from never getting out.
Or maybe it's some medical problem they haven't found for whatever reason, such as parasites, thyroid problems, etc. In which case she's headed down the same track as Hanako did in her short story, because he's not doing anything...

Only now having the chance to look through the book! Gosh some of these are really, really nice! First of all I didn't know that GB stood for Great Britain (lol whoops). Weed and Sakura running in the sunset might be my favorite, because it's something different and it's drawn well... I agree with Klomonx about the sea green water on that one page and then Kaibutsu's spread. They both caught my eye. Nice work Rascal, the typesetting looks super official and everything. Super impressed *o* P.S. Page 59 still has Finnish captions

Thanks for the heads-up: Kit found another one where I accidentally mixed up 'dog' with 'vet', which is hilarious. I'll do a re-release sometime next week

It's kind of sad how disillusioned I've gradually become when it comes to Yoshi and his work. Granted, I never knew much about him other than he was the author of GNG/GDW and liked/owned dogs. Thanks to Ginga Scans, I've partaken of the grandeur that is Yoshi, which includes poor characterisation, Yoshi tropes, seemingly absent-minded errors which sometimes leads to poor continuity... and the list could probably be made longer. It just really upsets me to know that Yoshi doesn't take good care of his dogs, but it disturbs me even more that even the vet is so clueless. That being said, I can still enjoy his works. I think Kit described it in a fitting way once; it's like junk food in manga form. But on the art book itself; I've always loved the more realistic portraits as well. And, as cliché as it may be, I've always loved the picture on page 13. I just really like the grey/greenish tint to it, and well, it holds some nostalgic value for me.

Wasn't Hiro actually a Great Pyrenees? Saint Bernards have a distinct brown fur pattern with black ears, and a white muzzle around a half mask on their face.

Just gonna quote from the original post on here, since it explained this: Hiro's breed changed in Meishoubu Retsuden to Great Pyrenees, which seems more likely, as you said. But for now we're just going on what Yoshi put down because it's not a common romanization error or anything.
