You can only see the tags in your BBCode tab, under the reply box. The Preview tab shows you what the post will look like with all of the tags working.
A tag is what you call the code in brackets. In example:
[b]The B in brackets are a bold text option, or a bold tag.[/b]And when used, the bold tag does this. Do add a tag to a section of text, simply highlight over any part of your text that you want and then click on the tag button, the brackets will automatically go in the front and back of the selected text.
Post Reply BBCode Buttons
BBcode Buttons are the row of buttons above the reply box, the place where you type out your reply to make a comment on a thread. Our BBCode selection comes with basic and unique functions. I will list them off from left to right.
Upload Image Button
Right above the bottom row is the button for Upload Image. This is how you can post pictures directly from your computer into your reply box, it's that simple. You can see more on this feature in this thread, which explains the Postimage feature and how to use it.
Font Face and Font Size
Self-explanatory. These change the type of font and the size of your text.
Font Color
The color wheel icon. This is how you can customize your font colors to whatever you desire.
Bold, Italic, Underscore, and Strike Through
These are the basic font styles
Superscript and Subscript
The two letter Xs with tiny 2s beside them. These are for adding a small character or letter above others, or adding them below.
Remove Formatting
The F with a red 'no' sign. Use this to remove all of the BBCode from your post. To do this, highlight the text you want to clear, hit Remove Formatting, and the tags will be removed.
Left, Center, Right, and Justified Alignment
Highlight the specific text you want to move. Go into the BBCode tab to add the different alignments since sometimes it's picky in Preview tab.
Table
The graph with blue lines. This is to make a table of any size you want.
List
- Add the number of lists you want
- Change the list bullet symbols
- ???
- Profit
Horizontal Line
If you wanna be fancy with your formatting, this adds a simple line break. Good for fanfics or long posts with multiple sections.
Link
The little chain-link icon. Adds a link wherever you want. The Text row is how you can name the link whatever you want, the URL below it is where you put the actual link.
You can send an email from your reply box. Input the text for the mail, then the email address below. Never used it but it's part of the basic options.
Insert Image
The picture of a painting. This is how you link direct images to the site to show an image. Image URL is the link address of the direct link for the image, meaning the link that shows just the image, not the site the image is on or anything. The Alt Text is the text you can write in to show for the picture when people hover over it; the alt text can be anything you want. This doesn't show up for us, however, because it's seldom used.
Along with this, in your Preview Tab, you can actually resize an image to whatever you want. Once you put the picture link in correctly, go from BBCode and back to Preview to show the image. Click on the image to see its sizing borders. Hold and drag the borders wherever you want; if you want it to be of the same proportions, grab one of the corner borders only, not the top or side ones. In your BBCode tab, it will show you the dimensions you've changed the image to; you can resize the dimensions or remove them so the image will be at its original full size.
Insert video
The picture of the movie clapper. Post a link to the video you want to share in the Video URL field. Then you can choose the size you want the video to show as in your comment. There is a list of compatible sites and video formats that will work on here given below in the popup.
Insert User Link
This is so you can tag someone if you don't want to write out their name. Tagging someone is when you type in their name with a link that notifies the tagged person so they can know you wanted to indicate them in a post or want to direct them to that post. With manual tagging, you just add @ to their username. A username is the name the person registered with; a display name is the name they show on everything else. You can change your display name at any time, but your username is unique to you and is always in lowercase. To tag someone, simply click on the button and a little box to find a member will come up. You can use their username or display name, and you only have to type in a few letters for the database to show you results for people with those letters in their name. Click on the member given and you're good to go. As a bonus tip, the main/root admin of a site, the founder and first ever person to create and own it, have the username of admin, so any time you are trying to tag me specifically, you must use @ admin (no space), not @rascal, as Rascal is my display name, not my username, or simply look for me in the User Link button and click me.
Insert Code
The picture of the blank piece of paper with red arrows. This is so you can input code, along with BBCode tags, without them doing anything. This is so you can display the tags and tell them not to use their function.
So instead of me writing [ b ] [/ b] , I can do [b][/b]
Insert Quote
The image with the two speech bubbles, one blue and one white. This is to quote someone. You can simply type in a quote without linking to the person you are tagging by copying their quote, hitting the quote button and pasting it. Most people click the Quote button above a member's comment. To multiquote, you can select the posts you want to quote for your one reply. When in a thread, every post has a row of buttons above their text that says QUOTE and has the LIKE icon, and to the right of the LIKE icon is a GEAR with a dropdown arrow. Click the gear to be taken to a list of options you can do with that post. Click the Select Post. Do this for all of the posts you want to quote. Once you are done, with the last post you are quoting, hit the QUOTE button, and now you will have all of the selected posts quoted so you can reply to each.
Insert Smiley
The yellow orb with a question mark for a face. Simply click on this to see the table of available smilies you can use.
Embed
The two blue arrow brackets. Seems to not work. Don't worry about it, you don't need to use this button. I'll update this once I figure out what the issue is.
Spoiler
The smiley face with tape over its mouth. This is so you can hide spoilers from people until they voluntarily click the spoiler title to be shown the text hidden inside. Just hit the button and type in the popup given.
