I know what you mean, any female character seems to be judged at a higher level even if they hardly have any panel time. I think the problem is Yoshi just gives us so few females that once one appears, people have all sorts of high expectations for them. The series does have strong well developed females as well, the scene you just posted with Reika is a good example of this, I don't know why people over look it so much. Anyway, new scene, you are the best!! I love this scene in both the manga and anime, it's funny how it seems to work in both versions with such different characters. Thank you! I think that's exactly it, too. Yoshi has made it clear he holds the female characters at a lower standard, if only because he wants to focus on the values of being a good man, by romanticized samurai standards (we won't get into his opinions, outside that...) and features very few female characters, in very few 'heroic' situations. But that doesn't make said females weak characters, in my book. They just have a different role, and different strengths, which get interpreted as useless and weak because they don't stand out in comparison with all the impossible stunts the guys are pulling. That doesn't make them less significant, though - like with Reika in this scene. Even if she couldn't overpower Hougen, she had the same resolve to protect her friends as any male character would. It's frustrating when people ignore things like that, and end up being just as sexist by saying only the loud-mouthed action girls can be good female characters. Ack, sorry for ranting again... You're welcome! I love this scene, too!

Glad I'm not the only one thinking that they'd make a decent pairing XP.

Thanks a bunch for these snippets; it's nice to see parts of the manga that appear only in fan-rumour for us who cant read Japanese. I never knew of Joe's abuse (but to be honest, I know nothing about Joe except the fact his scars are admirably cool looking), and his treatment of his son brings up something to add to the list of Yoshi's...'traits'. Abuse is something that many of the dogs in GDW, at least, go through. Kyoushirou comes to mind, and from what I know his story is probably the most realistic if we're going to look at abuse portrayal with dogs. However, I don't think Yoshi can convey any of the feelings we as readers need to feel. I can tell based on the writing of this scene Yoshi must not have any personal experience with such - or if he does, he addresses it very poorly. But more to the point, Yoshi's style is so stale. Looking at that scene, Joe's eyes...have no anger in them. He just looks bright eyed like Weed + scars. There's no anger or hatred in his eyes, I don't feel the emotions I should from those panels, and so the whole character development just...is lost.

There's no anger or hatred in his eyes, I don't feel the emotions I should from those panels, and so the whole character development just...is lost. Honestly, and disgustingly, I don't think Yoshi meant for Joe or his actions to be looked at as that bad. Later, he tries to use Hitomi's (Joe's wife) death as a thin excuse - even though you'd think that would make him treat Koushirou better, not worse - and then Joe magically starts not treating Weed like crap, and even accepts their father and starts worshiping him like everyone else, after just looking at him. This could be an attempt to make Joe have harbored a secret desire to have had his father's love, that he covered up with talk of hatred, but it's handled very poorly, and I think it's more likely Yoshi just backpedaling and trying to reassure us that Gin is great. The abuse is never brought up again (that I saw) despite Koushirou's fear making it evident it'd been happening, even though Joe is content to keep forgetting about his son's existence and Koyuki or someone else is always watching him. And you're welcome! Edit: Forgot to respond to your other comment. Yeah, Yoshi never seems able to draw more than 2 expressions. It's especially evident now that I'm re-reading the Kekkaishi manga, which has the best expressions I've ever seen in a manga. No angry ones, necessarily. Just exhausted, devastated ones, since I had the 2nd to last chapter open, anyway. But if Yoshi drew faces like that, I'd be so happy, you don't even know. Kekkaishi's good at breaking my heart or getting my heart pounding, just with faces alone. (Though the story and characters are amazing, even without that.) ... Welp, I meant to give an example of how expressions can make or break a scene, but it might have warped into a shameless plug. Whoops.

I know I should be focusing on Weed and Koyuki, but the more I see Joe/Jo, and his son the more I think how lucky he was that Kyoushirou wasn't there, because tiger-striped dog of manliness or not he'd probably get his ass kicked.

Added another GDWO scene, and fixed an incredibly stupid mistake in the WeedxKo confession, that I was incredibly stupid to make. I know I should be focusing on Weed and Koyuki, but the more I see Joe/Jo, and his son the more I think how lucky he was that Kyoushirou wasn't there, because tiger-striped dog of manliness or not he'd probably get his ass kicked. I shouldn't be saying it after the scene I literally just did, but... I would pay such good money to see a scene of Kyoushirou beating the shit out of Joe for that. (How did I not reply to this, sooner...)

Aww, that was actually cute. Now I have the most hilarious image of Lydia as an old ajumma (aunty) serving soju at a restaurant.

I love Koyuki and Kotetsu, so just seeing a scene of them hanging out with Lydia is cute. I really love when Yoshi bothers to add little silly expressions, when he wants to. Poor Lydia...

So Kit gave me the okay that I can also post in here with my translation practice, so without further ado, here's Tenka's debut. It's only three pages, with only two pages of dialogue, but I want to start with short, easy scenes and work my way to the longer stuff, eventually. I have plenty of scenes planned out, but if anyone has any specific ones they want to see translated, feel free to ask me, but know that very long scenes, as in anything longer than five pages with tons of dialogue or narration, will take me a long time and I may do shorter scene requests before it. This is the only part of the scene, Tenka only speaks to Gennai for these three pages before it cuts away. What we know now, though, is that While Masamune is paranoid about finding and killing Tenka, Tenka doesn't care and is giving people chances to leave his territory. He's not picking fights with any factions, but Masamune and Mateus are terrified of him and are trying to find his mountain, which now I can confirm IS named Taishan. I believe it's named after the real Taishan in China, since it's similar despite the poisonous gas surrounding it, since I can't imagine Tenka is seriously in China and people are going back and forth from China to Japan . Gennai went out to speak for Tenka to Masamune and Kenshin to give them three days to leave in peace, or bring their entire army to surrender to them. Tenka has no issues with subjugating Masamune's armies, but he only kills when he feels it's necessary, as we can see with his orders to Gennai. This already makes Tenka 1000x more interesting to me than Masamune's generic evil villain morals and goals. This is also my first practice on localizing dialogue so that people don't sound so clunky or robotic, so I hope you guys enjoy it!
