And I really think there should be a bad pairing video for Hougsneeper with Tainted Love as the soundtrack. I'd cry evrytim. Durango do not... I mean, do not tempt me to whip out some lazy ass movie maker skills and make that happen...

This is perfection. I'm curious, though, it's translated as The Devil bringing Sniper back or whatever, but that's clearly a picture of the Grim Reaper. Is Yoshi derping that much, or is it a grey area in translation?

Is Yoshi derping that much, or is it a grey area in translation? If I remember right from when Rascal was translating it, the word was "Akuma" (悪魔) which is "Devil" yeah. The Grim Reaper may have just been a stylistic choice, or just a Yoshi moment.

At first it uses "sold your soul to evil," but our equivalent is "sold your soul to the devil." But THEN Yoshi specifically uses akuma (devil) when the Grim Reaper shows up... so I dunno if Death is considered the same as the Devil there or Yoshi's that ignorant.

I added the Koyuki scene I promised Togo. (Page 1) Sorry that took a while, I'd forgotten about it. (Also Durango your Tainted Love pics are gone and now my life is ruined. Edit: Never mind, PB seems to have been temporarily trolling me. )

Thanks for the translation, at least Koyuki tried. That said the context doesn't stop the incoming facepalm from Yoshi's writing. He did something similar with Cross. Now if she hadn't gone "I'm a woman..." before the second sentence I would've been more on board with what you were saying. I'm not saying that you can't have weaker women, or even women who do depend on men (and vice versa), but the constant undermining doesn't help in this situation.
Still, though, yay honor.

Still, though, yay honor. Oh no, you're completely right. Yoshi pulled the "let's remind them she's a woman" thing again, which is ALWAYS annoying and very very often unnecessary to the situation. I just wanted to point out that I think that's what she's referencing, rather than the "I speak for all women being powerless" thing it kinda comes off as. Still, for all that, she's actually been given a role similar to a man's, in this scene, which is what I thought was most interesting. What with the "sacrifice yourself for others and the one you love!" trope that is like the epitome of honor, in Ginga. Usually women are sidestepped with this and just killed off or saved - which Koyuki obviously was, but we actually got to see that she was committed to the attempt and very much going to do it, which very rarely happens. Plus, I think it's very cool that she was thinking about the bigger picture and protecting her husband, and what she could do to accomplish that even without the ability to fight. Those are the kind of character traits I love.

Thanks for the snippet, Kit!
I can't say I'd be on board with Koyuki's decision even if I understand her reasoning for it and her desire to help her husband. It just seems foolish that she'd really think her death would benefit Weed, who'd just be heartbroken to lose her and would probably do even worse in the war like that... Not to mention she'd be putting her manly man protectors in shame, forcing them to feel forever guilty for failing their task, which she probably didn't really think about. But still, that was a valiant effort and Koyuki is indeed a badass. I am however a bit confused over what was she actually trying to accomplish. Was she simply going to jump into the bear's mouth and just serve him a free meal with her corpse, or did she mean to attack and try disabling the bear before she would die?

She was gonna attack it, she had fought before against a gang of ex-Hougen minions (the guy named Yuusuke) to protect Kotetsu and her sister, Chako.

No, I don't think it was the right decision, either. I just like that she thought about the hopefully long-term effects of it, rather than just some spur-of-the-moment "I'mma sacrifice myself!" thing that had no further meaning than Yoshi's usual "kindness and honor" trope. I think she was hoping to have it just hopefully satiate its bloodlust for the time, based on her comment, since it was pissed. Or maybe give them the moment it would take to kill her and possibly eat her. Of course we know they wouldn't have run, anyway (they were following her, after all) but I think she was counting on them being smart and getting the kids out and taking off, since it was pretty much the only chance they had. Of course, that's my take. M-92 Mantis may be right, and she was hoping to attack it for as long as possible, but I'm of the opinion that she knew full well she probably wouldn't even get that close to it. But I also don't disbelieve that she would try, since she also attacked some dogs to give Chako time to get help, despite knowing she wasn't going to win. You're welcome! I need to start doing more of these, again.

Oh I agree, she had the right intention, but seemed like she isn't fully aware of all the negative sides her decision would've brought if she had been able to go through with it. But that's most likely just Yoshi thinking that a husband wouldn't waste time to mourn for his wife and would just go on with the war.

Well, that was... Rather sad and anticlimatic. Maybe she was only referring to herself, but that whole "because I'm a woman" made me shake my head. At least, like Kit says, she has a personality. Not a very strong and definite one, but that's what Yoshi does and I'll take what I can get. Even just the fact that she doesn't pull the "lady in distress" thing is very uncommon in Ginga. But I didn't like the fact she still does nothing. She just... Bounces off the bear as Kagetora saves her. Even GB, the comic relief, is more useful. Yoshi, really? I'll still head canon Koyuki killing aliens with a shotgun. Thank you so much for the new snippet, Kit.
